About the Horticulture Business Platform

Bringing Ghana’s horticulture sector together to grow, trade, and thrive

The Horticulture Business Platform is a private-sector-led network connecting producers, agribusinesses, buyers, processors, exporters, input suppliers, service providers, institutions, and development partners across Ghana’s horticulture value chain.

Through collaboration, market engagement, practical learning, and coordinated dialogue, HBP helps sector actors build stronger businesses, develop new partnerships, respond to shared challenges, and contribute to a more competitive and sustainable horticulture industry.

Horticulture Business Platform Stakeholders
Growing together through collaboration and partnerships

A platform built by the sector, for the sector

The Horticulture Business Platform brings together the people and organizations involved in producing, supplying, processing, financing, transporting, regulating, researching, marketing, and purchasing horticultural products.

At the centre of the platform are Ghanaian horticulture enterprises—especially small and medium-sized businesses—whose growth depends on stronger connections, reliable information, responsive support, and access to markets.

HBP provides a shared space where members can exchange knowledge, identify commercial opportunities, engage decision-makers, strengthen professional networks, and collaborate on initiatives that address practical industry needs.

Continuing a valuable tradition of sector collaboration

For several years, horticulture businesses and stakeholders met through business-platform activities organized under earlier sector programmes, including HortiFresh. These engagements created opportunities for networking, information exchange, commercial interaction, and dialogue on industry priorities.

When HortiFresh closed in June 2022, regular platform meetings were discontinued, creating a gap in sector coordination. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands subsequently requested the Ghana Netherlands Business and Culture Council to explore how a new horticulture business platform could sustain and strengthen these activities.

Following consultations with private-sector representatives, government, associations, academia, and development partners, a strategy was developed around three core purposes: Networking, Information sharing, and Public-private dialogue. The platform formally began taking shape in 2023, supported by GNBCC as its organizing secretariat and by a core group of active horticulture-sector businesses.

Before 2022
Business-platform meetings supported regular engagement among horticulture stakeholders in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale.
2022
The closure of HortiFresh brought the earlier meetings to an end and created a need for a new sector-led platform.
2023
A new strategy was developed following stakeholder interviews and validation. HBP began operating with support from GNBCC and a core group of businesses.
2023–2024
HBP undertook sensitization workshops, market convenings, fairs, networking activities, membership development, and partnership building.
August 2024
A strategic review confirmed that HBP had been established, registered, become operational, formed a working core team, developed a constitution and membership package, and begun gaining recognition among businesses and government agencies.
Today
HBP is developing a stronger institutional website, member network, project portfolio, knowledge base, and dedicated digital marketplace.
